iPhone X: Top 5 Face ID tips and tricks

Face ID is among the biggest highlights of iPhone X this year. Apple’s new advanced security measure replaces the Touch ID fingerprint scanner, allowing users to instantly unlock their device and authenticate their App Store purchases with a simple glance.

However, that doesn’t mean that everything works smoothly with any flaws. Face ID sometimes can become a cause of annoyance, as it fails to work properly. With that in mind, we are here to help. We have created a list of the best Face ID tips and tricks, so you can make the most of Apple’s new security measure.

  1. Make sure you hold your phone between 25-50 centimeters

Face ID allows you to unlock your device immediately, but if it’s too far, it may not work. According to Apple, the company’s new security measure works perfectly when you are holding your phone between 25-50 centimeters. This means that if you bring your device too close, it will not work. If Face ID fails to work on your device, try holding your iPhone X within range.

  1. Make sure the TrueDepth sensor area is clean

Face ID makes use of the TrueDepth camera on the front of your iPhone X to capture accurate face data. Therefore, we recommend you keep the TrueDepth sensor area clean, as over time dust and fingerprints will build up in the area, thus preventing Face ID from recognizing your face. There are several ways you can keep the sensor clean, but the best shot is to clean it with a microfiber cleaning cloth.

  1. Turn off Attention Detection

Face ID requires you to make an eye contact when you first set it up on your device. This helps Face ID recognize your face to make sure that no one can unlock your device. For some users, this is a great feature, but others may find it annoying. If you happen to sit in the latter group, you can turn it off.

To turn off Attention Detection, head to Settings > General > Accessibility > Face ID & Detection and turn off the switch for Require Attention for Face ID.

  1. Use your passcode in case something goes wrong

Face ID is still in its early days, so it may include bugs and errors that may make your experience less joyful. If Face ID fails to work on your device, make sure you enter your passcode to unlock your device. If the problem still persists, turn off Face ID and then turn it back on. You can also reset all settings, which also remove your registered faces.

  1. Remove sunglasses

According to Apple. Face ID is designed to work with many sunglasses. However, it can sometimes fail to work. Therefore, it’s a good idea to remove sunglasses when trying to unlock your device.
