Apple iPhone serves as a perfect tool for taking photos and recording videos, mainly thanks to its amazing camera setup. If you frequently take photos or record videos with your iPhone, then at some point you may have wanted to transfer them to your computer. This not only protects your data from the prying eyes, but also frees up some space on your device.
Fortunately, Apple is making moving photos and videos between devices much easier. However, this may be unknown to some folks. With that in mind, we are going to walk you through the steps on how to transfer photos and videos from your iPhone to computer. Before we begin, make sure you now have iTunes installed on your computer.
How to transfer photos and videos from iPhone to computer
iTunes is the easiest way to transfer your photos and videos from your iPhone to PC. The process is pretty simple and we will show you how in the section below.
Step one: First off, open iTunes on your computer (make sure you now have the latest version of iTunes installed on your machine). If you receive a popup menu asking you to install a new version of iTunes, make sure you hit the Install button)
Step two: Next up, connect your iPhone to your computer and allow your PC to access your information on your iPhone. Hit the Continue button and proceed with clicking on the Trust button
Step three: Once iTunes recognizes your iPhone, launch the Photos app on your computer. After that, hit the Import button at the top right corner of the screen
Step four: Now select From a USB device from the drop-down menu and then you should see a list of all your photos and videos stored on your iPhone
Step five: Select all the photos and videos you wish to import to your PC and then hit the Import Selected button. The process may take a while depending on how many photos or videos you want to import
Step six: Once done, your photos and videos will show up in the Collection section of the Photos app.
Photos app for Mac
If you wish to move your photos and videos from your iPhone to Mac, then you can use Apple’s built-in Photos app for Mac. Here is how.
Step one: Open iTunes on your Mac and then connect your iPhone to Mac using a USB cable. After that, hit the Trust button and enter the passcode if asked
Step two: Select your iPhone under the Devices section (if you don’t see your iPhone, make sure unplug your device and re-connect it your computer)
Step three: Once iTunes recognizes your iPhone, the macOS Photos app should open and display a list of photos and videos stored in your iPhone’s camera roll
Step four: Now just simply select photos and videos you wish to import and then click on the Import Selected button to complete the task.
macOS includes a secret app called Image Capture that allows users to transfer their photos and videos from their iPhone to a Mac. However, the process may not be straightforward to some users. With that in mind, we are here to help.
Step one: Open the Image Capture app on your Mac (you can find this utility in your Mac’s applications folder) and then connect your iPhone to your Mac
Step two: Hit the Trust button and enter the passcode if prompted. After that, you should see your device under the Devices section
Step three: You should see all your photos and videos in the Image Capture window. Select all items you wish to import and then select your destination folder
Step four: Once you are done, hit the Import button and wait for the process to finish.
Another way to move your photos and videos from your iPhone to a Mac is via iCloud. The process is pretty simple and we will show you how. Before we begin, make sure you have iCloud enabled on your phone.
Step one: First off, launch your preferred web browser and visit iCloud.com
Step two: Enter your iCloud username and password and then hit the Arrow button (you will be asked to enter a code to authenticate your access if you have two-factor authentication enabled)
Step three: Select Photos from the list of options and then select all items you wish to download to your Mac or Windows PC
Step four: Once you are done, hit the Download button.
If you stumble upon any issues during the process, then make sure you have already turned on iOS Photos app in iCloud settings. To do this, head over to Setting, then tap on your profile at the top and select iCloud. Now just simply select Photos and then enable the iOS Photos app.
