Apple iPad: 8 features you should know about

Apple iPad has not seen a notable change in design for years. Apple keeps using its traditional design language, with rounded corners and Touch ID button. However, Apple has never stopped adding new features to its iPad lineup, in an attempt to improve user experience and take on Android-based rivals.

iPad serves as a perfect tool for entertainment, but Apple wants its own tablets to do more things. If you now own a modern iPad, keep in mind that this thing in your hands is far more capable than the previous models.

In this article, we have complied a list of the best features that help you get the most out of your iPad. Before we begin, make sure you now have a modern version of iOS on your tablet.

8 Apple iPad features you should know about

  1. Virtual touchpad

One of our favorite iPad features lies in virtual touchpad. As the name implies, you can easily turn your iPad’s display into a touchpad for navigation. This comes in handy if you want to do some editing tricks.

To access virtual touchpad on your iPad, simply fire up on-screen keyboard and then press two fingers down on the keyboard. Once you do that, a virtual touchpad should appear, allowing for better navigation, and easier copying and pasting.

  1. Switch between apps

With a modern version of iOS, you now can quickly switch between opening apps, all made possible by a series of gestures. To quickly switch between apps on your iPad, place four fingers on your display and move them from left to right or right to left to go to your desired app.

You can also use four fingers to swipe up toward the top of the screen to fire up the Task Manager. Keep in mind that multitasking gestures require a new version of iOS, so make sure you update your iPad before moving ahead.

  1. Voice dictation

Apple’s iOS now allows you to speak your messages, which eliminates the need for on-screen keyboard typing. To do this, you simply need to fire up the on-screen keyboard and then hit the microphone key to the left of the spacebar. Once you are done, you now simply need to speak your messages.

With Siri support, you now can use Apple’s virtual assistant to dictate your text messages. To do this, simply say “send text message to + name” and speak your messages. Once you are done, Siri will send it to the person you select.

  1. Quickly launch apps

Apple has been improving its own virtual helper for years, expanding its usefulness just beyond being able to show sport scores, get questions to answers and set reminders. You now can use Siri to quickly launch any apps on your iPad. To do this, fire up Siri and say “Open + app name”. This comes in handy, if you are in the middle of something and cannot open apps with your hands.

Alternatively, you can quickly launch an app using Spotlight Search. To do this, open Spotlight Search by swiping from left to right with your finger and then look for your app.

  1. Magic Wand

If you frequently take photos with your iPad, then Apple is making your editing process much easier. The Cupertino company includes a handy tool called Magic Wand. With Magic Wand, you can make your photos look better, thanks to its editing tools.

To access Magic Wand, you simply need to launch the Photos app, select the photo you wish to edit, then hit the Edit link and select the Magic Wand button. Once you are in, you will be presented with multiple editing options like cropping, adjusting light & color and tagging photos with text.

  1. Share photos with AirDrop

AirDrop has been an essential part of iOS since the days of iOS 10, allowing users to quickly move files between Apple devices. With AirDrop, you can transfer videos, contacts, and voice memos between your devices, without the need for a third-party to be installed on your device.

To share photos using AirDrop, open the Photos app from your home screen and then select the photo you wish to move over. After that, hit the Share button at the bottom right corner of the screen and then select the device from the AirDrop menu.

  1. Scan documents

Apple iPad serves as a scanner that allows you to scan any documents. In reality, you cannot scan your documents using your iPad natively. That’s when Scanner Pro comes to the rescue.

Scanner Pro is one of the best apps for scanning your page documents. With Scanner Pro, you can scan any papers. You can also upload and share your scanned documents using the app.

  1. Custom keyboard

Apple has officially opened some aspects of iOS to third-party developers, allowing users to do a lot more things. In this case, you can quickly use a third-party keyboard to replace the default one. To do this, open Settings from your home screen, then select General and hit Keyboard. After that, hit Keyboard and then select Add New Keyboard.
