iPad: The Day After Launch
The iPad has been out for a day and the first impressions and a number of exhaustively detailed reviews have emerged. Some of the more notable ones include:
- Engadget’s official review – Joshua Topolsky takes us on an impressively detailed tour of both the iPad hardware and included software, with evaluations of how each of the main applications has transitioned from the iPhone and integrated aspects of their respective desktop counterparts. Most interesting in this article is a breakdown of the new UI additions unique to the iPad version of the iPhone OS. Case in point:
Pop-overs (modals):
Windows which pop up and hover above the content you’re interacting with, used to excellent effect within the iPod app for displaying track listings when you touch an album, or getting information on books or music to purchase in the iBookstore and iTunes. These modals have their own navigation and points of interaction separate from the main content you’re working with.
