UPDATE: Optus plans have been released, check after the break for details.
If you’ve decided on getting an iPad 3G then the next logical question is what data plan do I need to sign my life away to. Well firstly, if you weren’t already aware, the iPad is the first platform to have pay-as-you-go data plans, so there are thankfully no contracts to deal with.
The second and most important question is how can get I get value for money and who is providing the best deal?

Recently, Apple announced the exact date that the iPad will be released in 9 new international countries including Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the UK. The date has been revealed as Friday, 28 May while pre-orders can be made in any of those countries starting tomorrow, Monday May 10.
The dealmaker or potential dealbreaker is what price has Apple chosen for your region and whether it is appealing enough to sell the device. Here in Australia, Apple has been notorious for charging prices of questionable markup over our USA brothers and sisters leading many of us to turn to the import market. Although, to be fair, this practice has diminished significantly over the past 5 years.
Does Apple still charge you through the nose for their gear? We want to know what it’s like in your country! Post in the comments.
Region-by-region pricing
So what are the prices for your region? Regions are listed below with prices for all models. German prices are noted in particular due to the controversy surrounding them (scroll down for more) – European prices are very close and thus other Euros are not covered in detail.

Many of us enjoy internet radio and the excellent selection it provides over mainstream radio. And for a large subset of that group, internet radio is only radio we can bear to listen to.
So how do we get streaming internet radio goodness on the iPad? The good news is that is possible, and basically just works once you get it going.
Simpler than you think
The solution is rather surprising – we use Safari to stream! Amazingly enough, Safari allows you to stream radio in the background even when the application is not open. I have had mixed results as to whether the streaming is interrupted by opening other tabs and other applications while streaming.

UPDATE: More pictures, more links, oh my!
So the iPad application Instapaper has been getting a lot of coverage on Twitter and around the design blogs for being possibly the first iPad killer application. But if you’re like me, the phrase “killer application” is so overdone it rings the cynic bells almost straight away. So is the hype justified?
For the uninitiated, the idea behind Instapaper is to provide a really simple system for taking webpages you want to read and archiving them on the Instapaper website for reading later.
You sign up for an account and click the provided bookmark in your browser, saving pages to the cloud for reading later.
Then, on your mobile device you open the Instapaper app and the articles you previously saved are now visible in a list. Simple idea, but you may be asking (and rightly), is this actually useful?

Just a quick news update for the start of May, to give an indication of where we’re going with the site for those of you out there reading.
You may have noticed in our sidebar we have a listing of iPad applications as they currently are in the store. This brings the site closer to actual iPad application information and seems appropriate for a site like this. Improvements that are coming are these:

So I’ve found myself in the unenviable position along with the rest of the non-US based technologically minded, apple-loving world: forced to wait until early May to order my iPad and horror of horrors, until the end of May to actually receive the thing. Has Steve forsaken his appreciative, if slightly overcharged, Australian faithful?
