iPad 3G Now available

iPad 3G now available!

It’s been a busy week in the world of the iPad with all models of the 3G being released to the public in the US. Alas, international customers are still waiting for another month until we have the units in our hands, although international pre-orders open on May 10 so there is some blessed relief in sight!

In the news, Steve Jobs fired a blistering fusillade against Adobe and Flash on the interwebs this week with the release of the 3500 word essay “Thoughts on Flash”. Outlined is why Flash has not and will not appear on the iPhone or iPad, without a serious change of direction on the part of the Adobe Flash team. It’s definitely encouraging to see Apple championing open web technologies in such a visible way; talking the talk with essays like these and walking the walk with WebKit and HTML5-based iAd. Read “Thoughts on Flash” here.

As mentioned above the iPad 3G dropped on US customers on April 30. iFixit provided a comprehensive teardown in usual impressive style while MacRumors has a brief summary of battery life differences between the 3G and WiFi models with surprising results. 3G data services for the iPad 3G have been activated and a step-by-step guide posted on the Apple site. Cult of Mac has also put together a great first impressions write up.

Meanwhile, in the twitterverse iPad chatter is rife:

@chris_gillespie finds himself in an uneviable position:

“Just got our first iPad Design job enquiry. All we need now is an iPad…”

@evantravers is in love with the beautiful iPad UI, certainly there’s a lot of love Evan!

“I think more than anything, the ipad is a UI/UX afficianado’s dream come true. So fluid and interesting.”

@samanatharonson is just happy to be posting from an iPad, insightful tweets be damned!

“This tweet is coming to you from my new iPad 3G. Too bad I don’t have anything interesting to say.”

Do you agree with Flash not being allowed on Apple mobile platforms? Do you object to not being able to view Flash video? We want to hear from you! Post your comments below.
